DEDICATION

Prof Satyendra P Kaushik, the founder Professor and Head of the Department (1990-1997) of Surgical Gastroenterology at the SGPGIMS Lucknow initiated an annual CME program called Surgical Gastroenterology (SGE) Week which was then carried forward by his successors (myself and Prof Rajan Saxena). SGE week became immensely popular amongst the students and every GI Surgeon wanted to be invited to it as faculty.

After moving from SGPGIMS (1989-2021) to MGMCH Jaipur in April 2021, I thought of starting a similar Annual CME program here. The assistance of my former fellow and an able colleague now, Ajay Sharma (HoD Surgical Gastroenterology), and other faculty colleagues, has enabled me to launch the 1st edition of JSF. We plan to make the JSF an annual event and will strive to make it as popular and as useful as the SGE Week.

I would like to dedicate the 1st edition of JSF to SPK (as we all used to call him).

Head of the Department, Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery

Welcome Message

Dear Delegates and Faculty,

We are glad to inform you that the Departments of Surgical Gastroenterology and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery at the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (MGMCH), Jaipur, Rajasthan, INDIA have initiated a continuing medical education (CME) program named the Jaipur Surgical Festival (JSF) – on the pattern of the now very popular Jaipur Literary Festival (JLF).

The 1st JSF, with the theme Cholecystectomy, will be held on Saturday - Sunday 4–5 December 2021 in a hybrid (physical and virtual) mode.

The program includes every and all topics related to Cholecystectomy. The faculty includes international (Austria, Belgium, Chile, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Serbia, Singapore, Turkey, USA) speakers and chairpersons; the national faculty is a virtual who’s who of surgery from all parts of the country.

Each session of 30 minutes has only 15 minutes for the speaker; 10 minutes will be reserved for the audience questions and interaction with speaker; the chairpersons will then give easy-to-use tips and take-home messages.

We are delighted to welcome you to the 1st JSF 2021 on Cholecystectomy and hope that you will elect to be a part of this scientific event.

Know more

Cholecystectomy

Gall stone disease (GSD) is common all over the world, including India; it is very common in the northern states of the country, including Rajasthan. Cholecystectomy is the commonest operation performed by a general surgeon. We, the surgeons, usually offer laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) as a short-stay procedure and the patients also expect a quick recovery and early return to work.

A complication, especially bile duct injury (BDI), may belie these assurances and expectations and may even have long-term ill-effects; it may result in a problem for the surgeon also in terms of a medico-legal suit. It is, therefore, imperative that EVERY surgeon makes EVERY effort to make EVERY cholecystectomy safe, for the patient as well for himself/herself.
